Alan Kent
President/CEO at Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia, GAWhere's the Box?
The rate of change in business - especially the healthcare business - is accelerating at an increasing rate. Adapting to change is one thing; becoming the agent of change is another. Be part of a discussion about the opportunity to drive change by thinking differently about our organizations and industry, and how we can best help our hospitals prosper rather than just survive. Learn how a small rural hospital in Georgia is rethinking its traditional role in the community and working to create a new environment for itself in the midst of change.
Alan is the President and CEO of Meadows Regional Medical Center and its affiliated companies since 2000. He holds degrees of Bachelor of Science in Health Systems from Georgia Institute of Technology and Master of Health Administration from Georgia State University.
Meadows Regional is a 57-bed rural hospital organization providing acute, outpatient, wellness and preventive services, employing over 25 physicians and 700 staff members. It has grown from under $50 million in gross revenues in 2000 to over $300 million in FY 2012. Meadows has been recognized nationally for work in the TPS Lean Healthcare process with Georgia Tech and for its Open Book Management operation. The organization was named the Georgia Hospital of the year in 2002 and a Thompson Reuters Top 100 National Hospital in 2005, 2006 and 2008. They received both The Jackson Group’s Laureate Award for Outstanding Work Environment as well as HealthGrades.com’s Outstanding Patient Experience award each of the last three years. The hospital moved into a $92M state of the art replacement facility in 2011 and has already broken ground on a new cancer center. Meadows is a great place to be a patient and a very cool place to work.

Kenya Gibson
Director of Client Services atHomer Simpson, Frasier Crane and The Fonz: Marketing Healthcare to Men
If you’re looking for new revenue streams, marketing to men may be the answer. Since women make 80% of healthcare decisions, why focus on men? 80% of jobs lost since the beginning of the recession were positions held by men. And 72% of men today say they would be comfortable staying home to take care of their children. Our understanding of masculinity is rapidly changing. Gender roles are shifting and men are now managing healthcare for themselves and their families. By taking a look at some of classic TV portrayals of men, we look into what makes them tick, how views are shifting, and why men are not to be overlooked in the healthcare arena. In this seminar, we learn that solely targeting women may cost you. The untapped potential is evident – men are half of the population and higher mortality rates reflect unmet needs. As our understanding of masculinity evolves, we dive into what men think about healthcare. (And they do think, sort of.)
With a Masters in Architecture from Yale University, Kenya started her career in store design for Saks Fifth Avenue and Disney. She later transitioned into retail marketing and advertising, working for a mix of retailers and consumer product companies, including Sony. At Franklin Street, Kenya supervises the account management department, serving as planner and liaison to our clients. She is an expert in marketing healthcare to women (and men), including the impact digital and social media has on reshaping the relationships between providers and patients.

Dan Dunlop
President and CEO of JenningsEngaging Female Healthcare Consumers with Blogs
How do you reach busy moms with your messaging, and how do you engage them in discourse? They are pulled in so many different directions. The answer is to market with them, rather than at them. Involve them in the marketing through the use of new media tools such as mommy blogs. Today, mommy bloggers are some of the most influential communicators online and mommy blogs are one of the hottest trends in social marketing. Hospitals are learning to channel the power of blogs to engage one of their most important (and often distracted) audiences: Moms. Learn how Tufts Medical Center and Lowell General Hospital develop a mommy blog to enhance their communication and engagement with area moms. And learn how they launched their Merrimack Valley Moms blog using a Facebook promotion to recruit moms from the community. We'll also provide a variety of examples of other hospital mommy blogs including those written by physicians, hospital employees and community members. And finally, we'll review how to use the mommy blog to help your organization achieve its business objectives.
